7:40 - Wonder where Joe is to open the meeting room? 7:50 - ditto 8:00 -Ron Simon calls Joe. Joe thought the meeting was next week. Oops. Reliable Joe has done a marvelous job over the years of picking up the key for the meeting each month and we do appreciate it. Now we know he is human and makes errors too. The Henkels volunteer their home for the meeting (8 miles away) and we all head over. 8:31 Meeting was called to order by new President, Ron Simon. He commented that in the very early days of the club, we met at various peoples homes just like this. (Note: Part of the activities would also include a short rally through town in the TC's and we had just followed Cindy's verbal instructions: 210 East to Mountain St. turn off, Do a Right, Left, Right and stop at 726, to get us to their house.) We did lose a couple members in the travels over though (George Kershaw, Phil Marino and Suzanne). Harvey, the Bellands, Simons, Goodmans, Crandalls, Wilmers, Henkels and the Edgars listened on as we bypassed the reading of the November minutes as nobody had them. Should be in the Classic Chassis which will be coming out soon though. Dave was busy jotting all this down as he the our 2002 Secretary. Joyce, our new Treasurer, gave a report of $3,638.12 in the bank. There was discussion on our Holiday Party. Need to pick out a date and location now. Joyce mentioned there was a very nice private collector car display facility with meeting/dining capabilities in San Diego. Everyone was intrigued by that and she will explore it. Should avoid the 1st Saturday in December to avoid losing our auctioneer, Art, again. That leaves us with December 14th as a good possibility. Ron mentioned that except for the last few years, the club had partially supported the party with funds to help with the cost. That was dropped as it did not benefit those distant members who didn't come. Ron pointed out that those in attendance more than made up for any one sided support as they chipped in at the auction. Stan motioned that we have the club supplement the cost of the party again for this year. It was seconded and passed by vote. There was lively discussion on the Alaska Cruise event coming up in August. Everyone likes the idea, although some are not going for various reasons. Would be great to bring a token TC along but just not practical. May have to settle for bringing a model of one. Some concern over the last day, Sept 7th, being the first day of Rosh Hashanah and making it home by sundown. Unless there are excessive delays, there should not be a problem with that though. Sharon reported that we have 45 signed up for Palm Springs in May. She snagged 5 more show seats, so get a hold of her if you forgot and want to go. Stan Belland our Program Chair has a terrific line-up for us this year although the US Marine Corp Band did not show up for or meeting tonight. (maybe they thought it was next week too) Various panels and speakers will cover topics such as racing, concourse showing, technical topics, etc. Also have our traditional Halloween party, July picnic, and a movie night. Meeting was adjourned at 9:22 pm., and we enjoyed the donuts the Simons brought and the coffee Cindy made. We never got to the program of sharing our TC holiday experiences. Everyone enjoyed just talking and visiting the Henkels' toy room. Respectfully submitted by |
