November 24th
TC Motoring Guild General Meeting

Traffic was a bear so we waited until 8:23 to start the meeting to allow those parked on the interstates to make their way in.  As we were meeting at Mike & Sharon Goodman's home instead of our usual Montrose meeting spot we figured a few souls may have gotten lost as well.   Of course a few members got there early, including Lloyd & Carolyn Hendrickson. They had just parked their white van conversion on the street and decided to wait a few minutes before entering.  After a while they noticed a helicopter circling overhead and then a police cruiser came up the street and the officer approached them.  For those that remember, there was an Amber Alert going on that evening and one of the neighbors called in the suspicious pair parked out front.  While the white van conversion was a good call the officer noticed that the license plate was wrong.  The suspects were also described as a black man and a 22 year old female.  Carolyn took that as a compliment.

With the excitement over, Al Moss was introduced as our guest speaker for the evening and he recounted some of the old days of sports car culture and how he came about to acquire his TC. It was the lack of service and parts that got him involved in the business. As business grew he would hunt out parts.  Not only did he buy up wrecked TC's from the junkyards but he traveled the world to find parts.  To give you an idea of how bad the parts supply organization was he told of how he tried and tried to get TD steering rack boot seals from the factory.  He was told time and time again that they were not available.  He then happened upon a large shipment of them sitting on a dock.  Here he is begging for these boots and they are just sitting on a dock and can't be delivered.

During a brief pause while Al switched slide trays, Stan announced that since the minutes were in the last newsletter we would dispense with that and to see Joyce if anyone wished to see the financial report. He then closed the business part of the meeting and Al continued showing slides.

Al relates some of his experiences in the early days of sports car and the parts business.

Standing room only at this meeting.

Attendance was one of the best ever for a TCMG meeting.  Many members and guests turned out for the evening.

Mike Goodman and Sharon Goodman along with Al Moss and Linda

When Mike was a snot nosed teenager he went to work for Al. It was the beginning of a long successful friendship.

Sharon had this cake made up in honor of the 50 year history between Mike and Al.

This is Al and his TC before he painted it and during one of his early races. Notice the license plate. EAM 645 is for E. Alan Moss and 6:45 AM for the time he usually rose in the morning.  Al described his racing as being Orthodox Coward.

Sorry for the blurry picture but this shot was taken from a slide Al was projecting upon a movie screen.

Here is Al standing by his TC with his well known paint job. This was at a car show at the Ambassador Hotel.

Again, slightly blurry as was shot on the movie screen.

Just too much excitement on one night for Pete.  Here he catches a wink or two.
