Ventura Kinetic Race Tour
October 13, 2003

What is a Kinetic Race? Well participants build a human powered racer/art object that will traverse about 3/4 mile of water, 1/4 mile of sand, do eight figure 8's on pavement and go through about 50 feet of gooey mud. Added points are given for flair, acting crazy, and having lots of fun. To the left we have the Frogasaurus Rex speeding (?) along the sand course. Above is the Rockin Fish entry.

And here comes Sponge Bob Squarepants in hot pursuit. Because they are fairly heavy and awkward and human powered they are geared very low and only go about walking speed.

Bob & Charlotte met a sea serpent.

Gordon Bundy and son-in-law Jorge pose next the TRI team racer.

David lends a hand.

Here is "Two Ton Tricycle" making waves in the water course.

And "Land Shark" stayed pretty clean (at the beginning anyway) through the mud pit.

Gene Olson, who came up with the tour idea, hops into his TC and is ready to compete (especially in the mud pit event). Jokingly he said the Guild ought to set up a similar event at a GoF.

Now this is more the Guild speed. The Lunch Competition! Gene Olson, Ron & Bobbie Simon, David (behind camera) & Joyce, Harvey Schnaer (behind friend James but you can still see his arm) & James sit and picnic during a break in activities.

While the two TC's on the run did not do the course they did generate a lot of interest from spectators.

And what do you do with a mud pit after a race? Just ask these kids.

Also on the tour but escaping the camera was David Coleman and the rest of Harvey.
