Well this was the tour that was not a tour. A small group of faithful members arrived at the Will Rogers State Park. There of course were the leaders Jay & Jackie Call. In TC’s were Larry & Kay Einhorn and Jim & Norma Crandall. Ron & Bobbie Simon and Bob Wilmer also were at hand in non-TCs. Some of the members schmoozed in the parking lot while others looked around the grounds. The Will Rogers home, much to Jay’s chagrin, was closed so one only got to peek in the windows. After visiting in the parking lot a while, the tour sort of evaporated as everyone except the Calls and Crandalls had something else planned for the afternoon. Since Jay and Jackie had already been over the route once and didn’t really want to do it again for just a caravan of two, Norma and Jim let them off the hook and everyone went our separate ways. This explains why Gene Olson found nobody when he arrived late at the start and likewise found nobody when he rushed on to the finish.
Now it was 50 years ago to the day that TC owners gathered to form an all TC club so this did not seem like a very auspicious turnout. Then again the day before was when Galonoy and Mason, with their two TC’s, met so it follows that two TCs (Crandalls and Einhorns) for this event are not too far off as being historically correct. |
