OPERATION: CHERRY PICK
June 20006

From Two Points of View

Meeting: Drivers take copious notes in preparation for the day's run.

Caravanning: TCs in the lead as is customary. German, Japanese and American "Iron" bringing up the rear.

Parking: The group can't wait to get into that sumptuous orchard.

The Essentials

Attending this event were our leaders Gene & Karen Olson along with Steve & Linda Simmons, Kay & Larry Einhorn in TC's. Bringing up the rear were Ron & Bobbie Simon in a Mini, Mel & Toni Appell in a Miata, Jon & Betsy Lutz in a Porsche and Dave & Lucy McCanne in a Chrysler minivan. It was a great run.

On the way we stopped to look at the site of the 1928 St. Francis Dam disaster. After picking way too many cherries we stopped for lunch at a burger joint called the "Boxing Ring" and actually ate on an outdoor ring. No one had any problems, and no one got lost.

The Details

Fourteen Cherry Pickers met in English weather (cool, cloudy) to explore the farther reaches of San Fransisquito Canyon. Three TCs were there: Steve and Linda Simmions in a beautifully polished car, Kay and Larry Einhorn in a resprung car, and Gene and Karen Olson. Also Ron and Bobbie Simon, Dave and Lucy McCanne, Mel and Toni Appell, and Jon and Betsy Lutz came out in other iron. It was a gorgeous day for a trip through twisting canyons. We drove over Spunky canyon for beautiful views of Bouquet reservoir. The cherries were incredible. I have never seen so many cherries on trees before. We all gorged ourselves. Returning on Bouquet Canyon we stopped at a biker bar for lunch, were we mixed with the West Coast Weasels. They have very cute biker jackets. It was a lovely drive.

Sightseeing: This rest stop was a dam disaster.

Picking: "Now that we've eaten all we can hold, aren't we supposed to buy some?"
