JANUARY 22: General Meeting

“Game Night”

Enjoy another of Gene Olson’s creative games, which are sure to delight everyone and offer the women ample opportunities to cheat their way to victory. Will the men manage to out-cheat them this year? Be there to find out!

FEBRUARY 9: Lame Duk Kup

Meet on Saturday, Febuary 9 at Wildlife Reserve in Sepulveda Basin, 6350 Woodley Ave., Van Nuys. Meet: 9:30am – Start: 10:00am. Duk flying, Duk racing, Duk concours, and of course a good meal. Bring your favorite non-TC hobby items for a show and tell. Learn more about your fellow TCMG’ers through their own hobbies. This one is always a crowd pleaser!

MARCH 2: TREASURES OF THE WALT DISNEY ARCHIVES at the Reagan Library

mickeymouseEnjoy a light breakfast, followed by a 45-minute drive along mostly side roads to the Reagan Presidential Library in Moorpark. At 12,000 square feet, this is the largest exhibition ever curated by the Walt Disney Archives and the largest temporary exhibit ever housed at the Reagan Library. The exhibition features more than 500 artifacts from nearly nine decades of Disney history – over 50% of which have never been seen by the public – including models, props, costumes, set pieces and artwork from throughout Disney history. MARCH 26: General Meeting

“The Great Race: A TCMG Production”

Our feature presentation is a movie made by TCMG members in the late 1960’s called “The Great Race”.

Movie description: In the hills around Malibu Canyon’s Tapia Park, a small group of TC owners gathered for an informal club race. But with a nice trophy and a few side bets on the line, things get a bit nasty. Cars are sabotaged and course markers are switched resulting in numerous breakdowns and wrong turns along the way. Fortunately, the hero survives the mayhem and saves the day for all. The Cast: The Wimers, Wilmers, Goodmans, Goldsteins, Douglasses, Binfords, Ashenfelters, and Bill Fulton. Who is the villain? Who is the hero? Will we recognize the young cast? Be there to find out!

APRIL 13: Burbank Historical Society Museum

burbank-museum-1 Join us in Burbank for a trip to down history lane with your fellow TC’ers. Learn about the rich early history of the region, and of the important roles it has played in both the aerospace and film industries. Enjoy their collection of vintage automobiles ranging from a 1904 Franklin and other brass era vehicles to a room containing 50’s hot rod memorabilia and engines. Also on the site is a circa 1887 Victorian house. There is something for everyone!

To reach the museum (from I-5 or from Granville), head West on Olive. Continue past Victory Blvd, turn right on Lomita St., then left on Clark Ave. Park in the “Burbank Little Theater / Creative Arts Center” lot on your left.

APRIL 14: (Unofficial Event) Queen’s English British Car Show

Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy one of the better British car shows in the area. Non-judged, and includes an auto jumble. Located at Woodley Park in Van Nuys. See www.queens-english.org for more information.

APRIL 23: General Meeting

“Racing by Sail”

TCMG member Phil Toth will be speaking on sailboat racing and his business manufacturing custom racing sails. Can sailboats travel faster than a TC? Will adding a sail to your car improve fuel economy? Be there to find out!

MAY 25: Santa Susana Mountains Historical Tour

Enjoy a multi-part driving tour of the scenic Santa Susana Mountains and learn about the early pioneering history of the region. See sights including:

  • Santa Susana Train Depot and Museum, built in 1903. Fully restored as a museum of not only train-related material, from small artifacts to rail cycles, but also with the rich history of film-making in the area. Countless westerns were made here back in the old days. Also see a HUGE, working model train room plus videos on train history.
  • Pioneer Church. Built in 1903 and expanded in the 1920’s, this picturesque church has been in continual use for most of its years.
  • Minnie Hill Palmer House and gardens. Built in 1911, this is the last remaining homestead cottage in the San Fernando Valley. Small museum on site near the cottage.
  • Views of the original 1800’s stagecoach road through the Santa Susana pass.
  • Santa Fe train tunnels (built 1900-1904, still in use) traveling underneath the mountains.
  • …and other historic sights along the route!

We will depart for our tour at 9:15 AM SHARP! Arrive an hour early if you want to eat. Time to our final stop at Santa Susana Depot should be about 2.5 hours. Overall driving distance is minimal, and entirely on side roads.

Lunch will follow the event at approximately 2:00 PM at Old Susana Cafe, 1555 Kuehner Drive, Simi Valley, CA 93063.

MAY 28: General Meeting

“Drive Your Other Car”

NlincolnOTE 7PM START TIME! Bring an interesting vehicle that your fellow club members haven’t seen. Or just bring your TC if you prefer. There will be a parking lot show before the official meeting, followed by snacks and chat about the iron parked outside. Previous years have seen some great cars show up, so don’t miss out! JUNE 14-16: San Diego Double Day

TCMG president Gorden Bundy will host a weekend getaway in Fallbrook, CA. The event starts on Friday with a tour of a wooden runabout restoration facility, followed by a group dinner. For Saturday’s main event we will attend the semi-annual Vista Antique Tractor Museum “threshing bee”. There will be lots of activity with a parade including the big steam traction engines. Saturday night will be spent at a banquet dinner in a local restaurant. Sunday morning is scheduled for a TC line up and good-byes after breakfast. This one is always a crowd pleaser! Bring your TC for front-row parking. Note remote location at the Henkels’ home (not our Montrose meeting room) and early 7PM start time.. Additional information will be printed in upcoming newsletters.

JULY 13 :Mullin Automotive Museum

mullinmuseum1Our July event will take us to the Mullin Automotive Museum in Oxnard, preceded by a gathering for a light brunch in the gardens and garage of TCMG members Steve and Linda Simmons. From there we will caravan by scenic roads to Oxnard to enjoy rows and rows of Bugatti, Delahaye and other amazing exotic mullinmuseum2classic automobiles. Also visit “Le Mans Pits” to see race cars of the 1930’s, and the amazing Schlumpf Collection of unrestored classics. Plus, see the iconic “Lady of the Lake”, an unrestored Bugatti pulled from Lake Maggiore after spending 70 years under water! JULY 23 : General Meeting

“Racing From The 50’s – and more”

Ron Simon will be showing an old movie he made titled “Racing from the 50’s”, showing racing from Hansen Dam and Santa Barbara plus the English trials in Encino. He will also show a copy of the first TCMG/ARR Conclave plus a little bit he did with the TC for a Playboy video.

AUGUST 18: Disney Exhibit / Travel Town

disney-barn disney-trainMember Larry Einhorn is hosting an event everyone will love – old machines and food! Take a drive to Travel Town to see “Walt Disney Express”. The exhibit is housed in Walt Disney’s original workshop barn and includes photography, animation sketches, cells and some of Walt Disney’s personal train-related artifacts. Also tour the many amazing antique trains in the park before departing on a tour to our host’s home for a Chicago hot dog lunch right from his genuine New York hot dog cart. This is an event the whole family will enjoy!

“Our Alaska Adventure”

David and Joyce Edgar will be making a brief presentation on their recently completed trip to Alaska, including some MG TC and vintage related material that tied into the trip.

SEPTEMBER 24: General Meeting

Our September meeting will be held at the Simon Automotive Museum in Gardena on September 24th (not at our usual Montrose location). This is our annual Movie Night among the amazing collection of cars owned by TCMG members Ron and Dave Simon. Watch for a flyer (in the mail) for details and additional info.

OCTOBER 4-6: TCMG / ARR Conclave

Our annual conclave will take place October 4-6 at The Apple Farm in San Luis Obispo. Rooms at the hotel vary greatly in price, so to ensure a low room rate be sure to book as early as possible!

Enjoy a driving tour, banquet dinner, and other special events in a wonderful setting. A private, TC-only parking will be available at the hotel along with our own welcome / hospitality room and catered banquet right on the hotel grounds.

This is not only our last general meeting of the year, it is also your last chance to buy raffle tickets toward our big drawing at the holiday party!

Our final driving event for the year will be held on Saturday, December 7. BBC Channel 4 will be interviewing our own Joe Douglass as part of a documentary on the 6 most iconic British automobiles. To round out the interview, they will be filming part of a TC Motoring Guild gathering.

We will meet at Bob’s Big Boy Restaurant in Toluca Lake at 1:30 PM. Filming will begin sometime after 2:00. There will be special reserved parking for those driving their TC.

DECEMBER: 8: Annual Meeting / TCMG Holiday Party

Our 2013 holiday party will be held on Sunday, December 8 at Sportsman’s Lodge in Studio City. Doors open at 6:30 PM. For those who bought raffle tickets at our monthly meetings this year, you will be automatically entered in a drawing for a $100 prize! The more tickets you bought, the better your chances of winning. You must be present to win.
