JANUARY 28: General Meeting

The program for the evening will be Gene Olson’s much anticipated “Game Night”. What crazy contest will our host come up with this year? Be there to find out!

FEBRUARY 15: Lame Duk Kup

castleparkStart off the new year with a thrilling, no holds barred TC Motoring Guild miniature golf competition! The winner takes home our coveted Lame Duk Kup Trophy, to be treasured for one whole year. Lunch and awards will follow at the nearby Robin Hood British Pub.

Meet on Saturday, January 46 (aka February 15) at Castle Park in Sherman Oaks at 9:00 AM, located near the 101 & 405 freeways. Our competition begins shortly after we arrive. Price per person is $3.00 for one 18-hole round.

February 25: General Meeting

thelander-watkins-glen“Racing an MG NE at Watkins Glen”

Pete Thelander will give a presentation on his recent trip around the country to race his 1934 MG NE at Watkins Glen and other venues. Some of his stops with the car included Monterey, Put-In-Bay Ohio, Watkins Glen in New York and GoF 94 in Oneonta New York.

March 22: Gamble House

gamble-houseThis March we will be touring the Gamble House in Pasadena, named a National Historic Landmark for its outstanding examples of American Arts and Crafts style architecture. The house and furnishings were designed by Charles and Henry Greene in 1908 for David and Mary Gamble of the Procter & Gamble Company.

IMPORTANT: Do not purchase tickets from Gamble House! We are taking a private tour which must be paid for through the club. For tickets, send a check for $15 per person to our club treasurer. Make checks out to “TCMG” and mail to: TCMG Treasurer, 1454 Chase Terrace, El Cajon, CA 92020.

Meet at 9:30 for breakfast at “The Raymond”, located at 1250 S Fair Oaks Ave, Pasadena, 91105. We will then caravan to Gamble House, located at 4 Westmoreland Place, Pasadena CA 91103, arriving at Gamble House by 11:30 for our 11:45 tour.

March 25: General Meeting

Ludwick-Ben-Franklin“Art Ludwick presents Benjamin Franklin”

Our own Art Ludwick will perform an entertaining and informative talk about the life of Benjamin Franklin. Adding to the experience, Art will be presenting himself as Dr. Franklin himself, in period dress, etc. A photo of Art in full Ben Franklin mode is shown here.

If you’ve ever seen Art as our holiday party auctioneer then you already know how entertaining this will be!

April 26: Wildflower Tour

wildflower-tourAfter several years of absence, we are happy to announce that the Joe Douglass Wildflower Tour is back! With recent storms have come many types of wildflowers including poppies to the deserts north of Los Angeles. On Saturday, April 26, our adventure will take us along scenic roads to the California Poppy Reserves in Lancaster where Joe will lead us to his favorite spots. Watch this space for further details.

April 22: General Meeting

Fancy yourself a champion puzzle solver? Take part in our puzzle challenge at the next monthly meeting on April 22! Teams will compete for the fastest time to solve a TCMG-related puzzle. Who will be crowned champion? Be there to find out!

APRIL 27: (Unofficial Event) Queen’s English British Car Show

Queen's English Car ShowBring a picnic lunch and enjoy one of the better British car shows in the area. This show is usually well attended by TCMG members. It is non-judged, and includes an auto jumble nearby. The show is held at Woodley Park in Van Nuys, and runs from 9AM to 4PM. Food is normally available on site from mobile food trucks. May 9-11: Wine Country Weekend

Wine Country WeekendMeet at the Simmons home for a light brunch before embarking on a memorable trip to Santa Barbara and surrounding wine country. Our journey will take us along a relaxing 80-mile scenic route to Santa Barbara on Friday. Saturday’s activities will include a drive into wine country to visit John Wright’s amazing collection of MGA Sebring Coupecars which includes not one, but two factory MGA Sebring race cars in addition to his TC and others. From there we visit a nearby winery before returning to Santa Barbara, finishing the night with a group dinner. We return home on Sunday morning. May 27: General Meeting

“60th Anniversary History Night”

Come celebrate our 60th anniversary with presentations and discussion about the history of our club. Learn of its beginnings, Click to enlargehear stories from those who were there and see scrapbooks of photos and artifacts from the earliest days of the club through modern day. Members are encouraged to bring their own pieces of TC Motoring Guild history to share with others. This is one you don’t want to miss!

To wet your appetite, take a look at the accompanying photo. Why was Jim Bradeson’s TC rolled into his living room one evening in 1956? Be at our meeting to find out!

June 14: Cherry Picking in Leona Valley

cherries Take part in a fun day of driving along country roads and picking your own cherries right from the trees in the orchards of scenic Leona Valley. You will find new ways to enjoy fresh cherries once you get home, assuming you haven’t eaten your entire haul already!

cherry-pickingOur driving tour will take us on a scenic 40-mile route along back roads through the Santa Clarita Valley and over the Sierra Pelona Mountains to Leona Valley.

This is a great event for young and old alike. Lunch will follow the event at a nearby restaurant. See the June newsletter for details on meeting time and place.

June 24: Monthly Meeting / Annual Henkels Picnic

The much anticipated Summer Picnic Meeting at the Henkels home on June 24. Note the earlier start time of 7:00 PM. Watch for a flyer in the mail with further information, or contact Cindy Henkels.

July 12: Adamson House and Malibu Lagoon Museum

Adamson House Spend a warm Summer day at the beach in your TC! Visit the Adamson House and Malibu Lagoon Museum, a Spanish Colonial Revival style home built in 1929. Adamson HouseToday it is a National Historic Site, California Historical Landmark, and a California State Park. See one-of-a-kind craftsmanship including decorative tiles, hand-carved doors, hand-painted frescoes, molded ceilings, distinctive cast ironwork and lead-framed bottle glass windows. Lunch at the beach will follow the event. See the June newsletter, or flyer (in the mail), for further details including meeting time and place.

SPECIAL NOTE: Our private guided tour is limited to 20 persons. Please let our event organizer, Steve Simmons, know if you plan to attend so we can keep track of our numbers. Additional tickets will be available as overflow for the regular public tour which starts shortly after ours.

July 22: General Meeting

“Adventures of a Commercial Airline Pilot, and other stories”

Bill Ippolito will speak on flying and auto racing. Bill is a retired Delta Airlines Captain, lives in Newport Beach, and is still flying, and currently building an all metal RV-18 2-place airplane in his garage. While living in Dallas, and flying out of Atlanta, Bill started racing a Merlyn Formula Ford open-wheel race car at various tracks in the southeast, ultimately becoming the US importer of many Merlyns.

August 25 at 11:00 AM: TCMG Goodwill Car Display

Edgar’s are organizing a Car Display for the benefit of residents of the San Diego Post Acute Center, 1201 S. Orange Ave., El Cajon, CA. Members are asked to come on by on their way to GOF, display your cars and talk to the facility residents. Even those of you not driving your TC can display your “fun” ride. Joyce expects at least one Miata and a Lotus 7 for sure. The facility activities director is trying to bring more interesting activities to his residents and thinks the men especially will be excited to see our cars. He will be closing off their parking lot and having sufficient staff on hand to bring out all interested residents. Many of the people living there will enjoy a change to the routine and visiting with someone new.

Joyce expects the display to last about an hour. All participants will have an opportunity to win a gift certificate from Rock Auto, and after the show will enjoy a mini tour, caravanning approximately 2 miles to a location where lunch will be provided. GOF check in is available on Sunday, August 24th and on Monday, but the hotel check in isn’t until 4 pm. Members are welcome to kick back with the Edgar family until then. The extra garage they built is about one mile from the lunch location and tours can be arranged if there is interest. To make sure we are prepared when parking cars in the display area and to have sufficient food for lunch, Joyce would like everyone to RSVP by August 15th. Contact Joyce if you have questions. August 25-29: GoF West

GoD West 2014GoF West, now in its 42nd year, will be taking the festivities to San Diego, California. This is a 5-day event that is not to be missed! Pre-1956 M.G.s of all types gather at GoF West each year to celebrate the marque. Events include a car show, funkhanas, navigational rally, arts & crafts competition, auction, banquet dinners and more.

August 26: General Meeting

NOTE REMOTE LOCATION! Since a large portion of our members will be attending GoF West, the August meeting will take place in San Diego during this event. We will be showing TC-related videos for members and GoF West attendees. Meeting time and location will be determined at GoF West. Contact Steve Simmons for details.

September 7: Santa Paula Airport

Santa Paula AirportEnjoy light breakfast snacks at the Sorensen home in Westlake Village before embarking on a scenic driving tour through orchards and canyons to beautiful Santa Paula. There, we will visit the Santa Paula Airport and view several hangers full of interesting displays, from cars to airplanes to antique radios and more. Lunch will be available at the airport restaurant before returning by a slightly different scenic route. Please note this is an RSVP event. September 23: General Meeting

simon-museumNOTE REMOTE LOCATION: Our next monthly meeting on September 23 will be held at the Simon Auto Museum in Gardena. Meeting begins at 7:00 PM. Sit among the amazing cars and automobilia of TCMG members Ron and Dave Simon’s auto museum while enjoying our annual movie night! Popcorn and refreshments will be provided. Watch for a flyer in the mail with details on our feature presentation.

Our topic of discussion before the film will be GoF West. Members are encouraged to bring their stories, awards or other items of interest. A slide show will also be run with photos from GoF West. Send any photos you would like included to Joyce Edgar by email. GoF West Steering Committee members David Edgar and Steve Simmons will be in attendance to hear your thoughts on how to make the next GoF West even better than the last. We hope you will be there to share your ideas, praise or criticism about the San Diego event so that it can be presented to the GoF West board at their next meeting.

October 3-5: TCMG / ARR Conclave

TCMG ARR ConclaveOur annual conclave with the Abingdon Rough Riders. This is our premier event for the year, so don’t be the only one not there! The location this year, chosen by the Rough Riders, is The Gunn Hosue Hotel in Sonora. For the latest information on hotels, activities, etc, please click here.

November 8: Old Town Music Hall

old-town-music-hallOn our November event we will be visiting Old Town Music Hall in El Segundo where our club will enjoy a collection of Laurel and Hardy silent and talkie movies! Silent movies will be accompanied by a 1925 Wurlitzer organ. Lunch precedes the event at a nearby restaurant.

November 25: General Meeting

TCMG members David Reid and Terry Schuller will be discussing their career in underwater photography and the equipment required to do this kind of work. Learn about their cameras and techniques, plus enjoy samples of their work at this most interesting presentation.

December 7: Holiday Party / Annual Meeting

Our 2014 holiday party will be held on Sunday, December 7 at Sportsman’s Lodge in Studio City. For those who bought raffle tickets at our monthly meetings this year, you will be automatically entered in a drawing for a $100 prize! The more tickets you bought, the better your chances of winning. You must be present to win.
