TCMG Loses Long-Time Member

We were deeply saddened to learn that long-time TCMG member Bob McKarney passed away on May 2.  His good friend Stan Belland broke the news to us and had this to say:

“Today, May 2, 2017 I lost my dearest friend – Bob McKarney.  He died peacefully this morning after a long, always cheerful battle with emphysema. I will miss him grievously and I’m sure all of you who knew him will too.  He brought me into the club, but other than that, he served the TCMG greatly for many years. He was as quirky, eccentric and fun as the cars we drive, but more comfortable and dependable. I don’t know yet what Nancy has planned, but St. Peter just put on the Willie Nelson music.”

After 59 years, New Meeting Location Announced

TC Motoring Guild has held its monthly meetings in the same room for the past 59 years.  Sadly, the building has been sold and our last meeting at this location was held on March 28.  An exhausting search was conducted for a new location that is centrally located to the majority of our active members and caters to our needs.  The chosen location is in Studio City.  Information about this new location can be found by clicking the “About TCMG” tab at the top of the screen and selecting “Monthly Meetings”.  Be sure to attend the next meeting at our new home, and bring a TC if you can!

Tech Session June 17

A tech session will be held on Saturday, June 17 at Steve and Linda Simmons’ garage.  The topic of this session will be “TC King Pin Replacement”.  We will go through the process of replacing king pins and bushings, reaming, shimming and everything else involved to complete the process.  Those planning to attend should contact Steve by either email or phone, for details on meeting time, etc.

Member Video

TCMG member Charlie Williams of Redding, California made this wonderful video of his local area.  We hope this virtual tour with Charlie and TC6126 will inspire you to fire up your own TC and take a similar day trip!

Charlie writes: “I read with envy in each TC Motoring Guild issue about the neat rides those of you in Southern Ca enjoy together and it got me thinking.  Perhaps there is a way I could share one of my drives with all of you.  So, last Sunday I attached some of my video equipment to the car and set off on one of my jaunts.  Hope you enjoy the ride.”

Poppy Tour Video

TCMG member Jim Crandall just sent this video he created of our recent tour to the California Poppy fields in Lancaster.  Although Jim didn’t have his TC with him on this event, he was able to capture the fun through his video camera, and included some still shots as well as a brief shot from the cockpit of the Simmons TC on a dirt track through the desert.

meetings

The much anticipated Summer Picnic Meeting at the Henkels home returns on June 27!  Bring a picnic dinner and dine under the stars at this annual favorite.  Dessert will be provided by our hostess.  Those driving TCs or equally interesting classics (tall order) get preferred parking in the driveway.  Note the earlier start time of 7:00 PM. Watch for a flyer in the mail with further information, or contact Cindy Henkels.

May Recap: 20 members were present for our May meeting, with two TCs driven by Loe and Simmons.  Our thanks to Sandra Loe for a fascinating presentation!

events

Where the heck is Somis?!?  Find out on June 25 by joining us on a Somis Safari!  Visit the Nut House!  Journey back to the early 1900’s!  Have a Berry Good Time!

Our June tour will take us to the small farming town of Somis for a variety of activities.  Our first stop is a small farm store, family owned and run for 58 years!  Here you will find all kinds of nuts and nut-related foods in a charming old wood building.

Next we cruise by a hardware store opened in 1912 and now on its third generation in the same family.  In fact it’s the oldest continuously operating hardware store, owned by the same family, in the county.  It was rebuilt in 1926 after a fire, and parts of the store and inventory haven’t changed much since then!

Our last stop on the tour is at a roadside fruit stand where you can not only buy all kinds of farm fresh fruits and berries, but you can pick your own by grabbing a basket and walking the berry trail!  This is a great event for young and old alike so bring the kids!  And don’t forget to bring your TC to fully enjoy the old back roads we will take to get there.

Watch for a flyer in the mail (or see the July newsletter) for details on meeting time and location.

May Recap: 18 members and guests attended our Big Bear Weekend in May.  Three TCs were present driven by Simmons, Loe and Einhorn (display only).  Special thanks to Malcolm Buckeridge for spearheading the event and hosting us at his home on Friday evening!
