70th Annual Conclave Announced

As we wrap up the 2025 TCMG / ARR Conclave, plans for next year’s 70th annual gathering are already taking shape. The event will be held at the site of our first Conclave in 1957, in the city of San Luis Obispo. Special plans are being made to honor the 70 year history of this great event, to be announced when they are finalized.

Two of TC Motoring Guild’s Earliest Members Pass

Jim Crandall

Jim Crandall

Jim was one of our longest term members. He joined in 1961 and along with his wife Norma was a vital part of our club since day one. Looking through our old photos and newsletters, he and his wife Norma were always there, along with their TC which remains in the family today. He and Norma were a driving force in many of the Guild’s activities, with Jim serving in various roles including President, Vice President, Treasurer, Director, Events Coordinator, Newsletter Editor and Webmaster. We will miss him dearly.

Mike Goodman

Mike & Sharon Goodman

Mike was a legend in the M.G. community and probably kept more TCs on the road than anyone over the years. He joined TCMG in 1964 and over the decades never hesitated to offer assistance or advice to those in need. He served many roles in the club including Vice President, Treasurer, Programs Chair, Events Chair and Director, in addition to his unofficial role as “M.G. Guru and Free Advice Giver”. Mike and Sharon opened their home more than once for our holiday parties. The club will not be the same without Mike.

meetings

Our next monthly meeting will be held on October 25 (Saturday) at the home of TCMG members Dave and Bobbi Spiegel in San Marino. View their restored TC and SA Saloon, and chat with your fellow members. Doors open at 2:00 PM. See your TCMG directory for the address.

Members who drive their TC to the event will receive a point toward the Sargent Award. Anyone living outside of the Southern California area may drive their TC a simulated journey of at least 25 miles to receive a point.

For more meeting and event information, visit the Calendar Page.

September Recap: 27 members attended our September meeting on Zoom. Six TCs drove a simulated 10 mile journey to the meeting. TCs were driven by Caccavo, Edgar, Lemieux, S Simmons, Taylor and Zucca. Thanks to David and Joyce Edgar for their vintage Conclave photo show and TC quiz program!

Monthly Events

Our next driving tour taking place on Sunday, November 2nd takes us to a private collection of cars, motorcycles and memorabilia in the small town of Somis. The day will start in at a local car meet held at the Reagan Presidential Library, where we will have our own parking area reserved. Light breakfast snacks are available on site, a short walk away. A 45-minute driving tour along scenic country roads then takes us to the collection. Afterward, we will lunch at a local restaurant.

If you plan to attend this event, please RSVP to Steve Simmons so we can let our hosts know how many to expect.

September recap: 31 members with 10 TCs, a PA and a few “other” vehicles took part in the 69th Annual TCMG / ARR Conclave in Oakhurst, California. See the upcoming newsletter for photos and info.

Monthly DIY Tours

The Summer DIY event has ended. The next tour will be announced shortly.

Bonus Points

Want to earn more “Use it or lose it” points and have fun with your TC while doing it? Here are six challenges that will earn you points from now until October 15th. That’s one task per month, but you can do them at any time, in any order.

– Enter your TC in a car show
– Attend a Cars & Coffee type event
– Participate in a parade
– Let a child who is not yours sit in a TC for the first time
– Find a British flag while out driving
– Get a photo of your TC on a road showing three or more curves in the picture

Each challenge completed with a TC will earn one point. Submit photos as you get them to Steve Simmons for inclusion in our meeting slide shows. Photos must be taken and submitted between April 12 and October 15.
