January 26: General Meeting

“Puzzle Night”

jigsawFancy yourself a champion puzzle solver? Take part in our jigsaw puzzle challenge at the January meeting! Teams will compete for the fastest time to solve a TCMG-related puzzle. Who will be crowned champion? Be there to find out! Start the new year off with some M.G. fun, and use the chance to meet your new 2016 TCMG executive council!

 

FEBRUARY 6: Lame Duk Kup

lame-duk-rallyJoin us for the 2016 Lame Duk Rallye on January 37th (February 6)! Test your powers of perception as you journey along roads less traveled. See the charming and rural areas of Old Topanga Canyon, Fernwood and Monte Nido while seeking answers to nefarious easy questions provided by your rally master. Answer wisely and win the coveted Lame Duk Trophy!

Please bring a pencil or pen so you can write down your answers as you travel the rallye route. Watch for a flyer in the mail for details on starting time, location and lunch plans.

 

February 23: General Meeting

“Movie Night”

pebblebeach-adOur next monthly meeting is on February 23rd at the usual Montrose location. The program is Movie Night, where members will be showing a one-hour presentation of early photos and stories from the Pebble Beach Road Races. We will hear quips about the races from TCMG member Bob Koons, who races TCs and presently owns one of the cars that ran in the first race at Pebble Beach. Listen to interviews from the men who were there, and see the likes of Al Moss, Carroll Shelby, Phil Hill and Stirling Moss racing through the trees. See TCs pushing the corners, glimpses of the Flying Shingle plus many other fabulous race cars of the past in action. A truly wonderful presentation you are sure to enjoy!

 

March 19: Malmut Vintage Car Museum

Malmut MuseumJoin us on Saturday, March 19 for a trip to Mike Malmut’s Vintage Car Museum in Newbury Park. The museum is a private collection featuring an eclectic mix of vintage cars including a large number of micro cars and early air-cooled Porsches and VWs. There are also many American, British, French, German and Italian vehicles on display in addition to vintage gas pumps, televisions and radios, jukeboxes and more.

Malmut MuseumOur day starts in Malibu with breakfast and an incredible scenic drive through the Santa Monica Mountains and quiet country back roads, terminating at the museum. Lunch will follow the event at a nearby restaurant. This is an event not to be missed! Watch for a flyer in the mail with details on meeting time and location, as well as an ad in the March newsletter.

 

March 22: General Meeting

“Gorden’s Garage”

gordens-garageTCMG member Gorden Bundy will give a presentation on the various projects he’s working on in his garage, including his TC, a recently acquired TF and his latest purchase, a custom enclosed trailer that was designed to carry a TD. This will be an open discussion program where members (especially those with trailer experience) can give suggestions on various aspects of the work being performed. Other vehicles discussed will be his Ural and a BMW motorcycles. This is sure to be an interesting discussion!

 

April: Joe Douglass Wildflower Tour (CANCELED)

wildflower-tourCANCELED due to lack of blooms this year!

Our traditional Joe Douglass Wildflower Tour returns! Enjoy a scenic drive to the Antelope Valley for a drive through the famous California Poppy Reserve. Blooms of all types, not just poppies, make this an annual favorite when the early season weather has been favorable. Poppy bloom forecasts are being monitored, and a date for the tour will be set once we have a better idea of when the peak will be. Stay tuned!

 

April 26: General Meeting

“Around the World in an MG”

boadle-mgbgtApril will feature a special guest, Simon Boadle from Australia, who along with his wife Maddie has driven an MGB GT across entire continents in the name of adventure. Simon will give a presentation on his travels, detailing the rewards and challenges of taking on such a feat. The photo shown here is near the border between Ecuador and Peru. This is one meeting you won’t want to miss!

 

April 27-29: Wine Country Getaway

NOTE: This is an RSVP event! Please contact Steve Simmons if you plan to attend.

Wine Country WeekendMeet at the Simmons home for a light brunch before embarking on a memorable trip to Santa Barbara! Our journey will take us along a relaxing 80-mile scenic route to Santa Barbara on Wednesday. Thursday will include a scenic drive over the Santa Ynez Mountains and into wine country for the afternoon, stopping for lunch and special activities. Wine Country WeekendWe finish the night with a group dinner at a local restaurant, and return home on Friday morning.

May 24: General Meeting

“Hema’s House of Motorcars”

NOTE REMOTE LOCATION! Our May meeting will be held at the shop of TCMG members Hema and Janakie Ratnayake. Their shop and collection will be open for us to view and includes numerous British cars of all types. In his collection are three TCs previously owned by TCMG members, one of them by founding member Earl Sargent. Doors open at 7:30 PM.

 

May 29: Cherry Picking in Leona Valley

cherries Take part in a fun day of driving along country roads and picking your own cherries right from the trees in the orchards of scenic Leona Valley. You will find new ways to enjoy fresh cherries once you get home, assuming you haven’t eaten your entire haul already!

cherry-pickingOur driving tour will take us on a scenic 40-mile route along back roads through the Santa Clarita Valley and over the Sierra Pelona Mountains to Leona Valley.

This is a great event for young and old alike. Lunch will follow the event at a nearby restaurant. Look for a flyer in the mail, or contact event coordinator Steve Simmons for further details.
 

June 21: General Meeting / Henkels Picnic

The much anticipated Summer Picnic Meeting at the Henkels home on June 21. Note that this is NOT the usual 4th Tuesday meeting! Also note the earlier start time of 7:00 PM. Watch for a flyer in the mail with further information, or contact Cindy Henkels.

 

June 27 – July 1: Gof West

gof-west-2016-logoThe Forty-Third annual GoF West will be held at the Eagle Crest Resort in Redmond, Oregon. Traditionally a pre-1956 MG event, GoF West now welcomes all year model MGs. For more information on this long-running event, visit www.gofwest.org. Information on caravans from Southern California will be discussed at future meetings and posted as it becomes available.

Note: David Edgar, chairman of GoF West is seeking volunteers to help with various tasks at the event. If you would like to volunteer, let David know.

 

July 10: Driving Tour and Chicago Hot Dog Party

Don’t miss this crowd favorite! Hot Dog PartyTCMG members Kay and Larry Einhorn will be hosting one of their world-famous Chicago-themed hot dog parties at their home in Encino. The day will start with breakfast snacks at the Crandall home in Malibu, followed by a 90-minute scenic driving tour to reach the site of the hot dogs.

Please RSVP for this event so Larry can plan how much seating and how many hot dogs will be required! Watch for a flyer in the mail with RSVP information.

 

July 26: General Meeting

Pete Thelander will be giving a talk about the various models produced by The M.G. Car Company from its conception onward. You would be hard pressed to find a more knowledgable person on this subject, so join us for this opportunity to learn something new about the cars we love!

 

August 13: Will Rogers Estate Tour

will-rogersOn Saturday, August 13 we will gather at historic Will Rogers State Park for a guided tour of the Will Rogers home, barn and grounds. Tours are on a first come, first served basis so plan to arrive early to ensure you get a ticket! We plan to meet in front of the house at 9:30 AM, and the first tour starts at 10:00 AM. The tour is free, and parking is $11 for seniors, $12 for the Simmons. Information on lunch is forthcoming.

 

August 23: General Meeting

“Movie Night at Simon Museum”

Sit among the amazing cars and automobilia of TCMG members Ron and Dave Simon’s auto museum while enjoying our annual movie night! Popcorn and refreshments will be provided. Watch for a flyer in the mail with details on our feature presentation.

 

 

September 27: General Meeting

“Visconsi Automotive Art”

visconsi-artTCMG member John Visconsi will be giving a fascinating presentation on his automotive sculptures. John spends countless hours fabricating each piece by hand using 3/8″ tubing to create unique and beautiful artistic creations to represent various auto makes and models. See the techniques and skills involved to create an automotive art piece like no other at this most interesting presentation.

 

October 6-9: 60th Annual TCMG / ARR Conclave

2013-lineup200Don’t miss our premiere event of the year, the Annual Conclave with the Abingdon Rough Riders! This year’s event is a special a 3-night celebration, marking the 60th consecutive year we will meet with our friends from the north. Special activities are being planned by ARR, the hosts of this year’s event. The location will be The Apple Farm in San Luis Obispo, next door to the site of our first conclave in 1957. October 25: General Meeting

This is our annual Halloween Party! There will be entertainment, prizes and good food a-plenty. Also partake in nominations for the 2017 TCMG Board.

NOTE 7:00 PM START! Pizza, salad and dessert will be provided by the club.  Please RSVP to Bobbie Simon or Jan Sorensen if you plan to attend so we can plan how much food to provide.

 

November 12: Valley Relics Museum

valley-relicsTake a trip down memory lane with a visit to Valley Relics Museum in Chatsworth! The museum chronicles the history of the San Fernando Valley from the 1800’s through present day, focusing primarily on the urbanization and pop culture of the 1950’s through 80’s. The collection includes photographs, neon signs, cars, bicycles, old documents and more.

Our day begins appropriately with breakfast at Bobby’s Coffee Shop, a local icon in business since 1949.  Then a short driving tour to the museum followed by a visit to an old-time soda fountain for treats!

Meet at 9:00 AM at Bobby’s Coffee Shop, 22821 Ventura Blvd, Woodland Hills, 91364.  We will depart for the museum at 10:00.

TCMG member Garret Hanes has recently moved his restoration shop to a new location where they work on Cobras (real ones!) and other exotic classics. See how the shop was built, the type of work they do and other interesting factoids at this very special presentation!

 

December 11: Annual Meeting and Holiday Party

tc-holidayOur much anticipated holiday party and annual meeting! This year’s event will be held at Sportsman’s Lodge in Studio City, at 6:00 PM. In addition to great company and lots of food, you will also enjoy the following entertainment and activities:

  • A live auction consisting of MG-related and other items of interest. Item donations for the auction are greatly appreciated and funds raised are used to help run our club!
  • Free ticket upon arrival for a chance to win one of three cash door prizes!  Or think of it as free auction items if you prefer!
  • Awards ceremonies for our three prestigious trophies – Earl Sargent Memorial “Use it or lose it” Trophy, Frank Mason Award, Breakdown Award.
  • Announcement of the 2017 TC Motoring Guild Executive Council.
  • Bring a new, unwrapped toy for our toy drive!

This year, toys will go to the YWCA San Gabriel Valley WINGS Shelter for families seeking refuge from domestic violence and new directions toward sustainable living. This year it would be nice to focus our giving on older children and teens. Some suggestions  to guide your choosing are board games such as Monopoly, Scrabble; jigsaw puzzles of nature, picturesque or historical places (of interest to adults and older children); DVDs of family-type movies; etc. Please choose gifts that do not require batteries and are non-violent in nature. Please bring toy donations UNWRAPPED.
