January 22: General Meeting

“Game Night”

The crowd favorite returns with your award-winning (through cheating) host, Gene Olson!  Teams will compete for fabulous prizes (or not) by participating in another of Gene’s devious TC-related games.

 

February 10: Lame Duk Kup

Start off the new year with a thrilling, no holds barred TC Motoring Guild miniature golf competition! The winner takes home our coveted Lame Duk Kup Trophy, to be treasured for one whole year. Lunch and awards will follow at a nearby Pub.

Meet on Sunday, January 41 (aka February 10) at Castle Park in Sherman Oaks at 9:00 AM, located near the 101 & 405 freeways. Our competition begins shortly after we arrive. Price per person is $3.00 for one 18-hole round.

Richard Loe will be giving a presentation on his varied collection of cars which includes four TCs! You won’t want to miss this glimpse into the Loe’s lifelong passion with classic cars.

 

March 31: Joe Douglass Wildflower Tour

The wildflower tour returns for 2019!  Recent storms have brought wildflowers back to California in abundance.  Many types of wildflowers including poppies are blooming in the mountains and deserts north of Los Angeles.  On Sunday, March 31, our adventure will take us on a 1-hour drive along scenic roads to the California Poppy Reserves in Lancaster.

Bring a picnic lunch and dine among the flowers!  We will lunch after our tour at a nearby nature park.  Picnic tables are available as first come, first served.

March 26: General Meeting

“Get To Know TCMG”

The evening’s program will be a sequel to a program from eight years ago, where you will learn all kinds of fascinating things about your fellow TCMG’ers.  Facts like “The hospital bill for my birth was partially paid with potatoes”.  Also “I drove a TC through the Berlin Corridor in 1996” and “My father went to high school with Charles Lindberg.”  Don’t miss this entertaining evening of TCMG member history!

At our April meeting, TCMG member Pete Thelander wil be giving a talk about car restoration.  See the upcoming newsletter for more information.

 

May 3: Stagecoach Inn Tour and Picnic

Join us on Friday, May 3 for a tour, picnic and Linda’s baked goodies!

From our meeting point in Westlake Village, we embark on a 15-mile scenic driving tour to the Stagecoach Inn Museum in Newbury Park. Built in 1876, the museum was originally a hotel and is now a historical landmark. Here we will enjoy a 90-minute guided tour of the museum, a schoolhouse built in 1888, and the blacksmith shop. Also see a pioneer home, a Mexican adobe and a Chumash dwelling, all representing different historical eras of the Conejo Valley.

After the tour it’s a short drive to the Simmons residence for a picnic lunch. Bring your picnic basket (or grab lunch to go) and dine in the garden! Desserts and beverages will be provided by Linda Simmons. For those interested, we will be performing basic TC maintenance tasks in the garage after the picnic. Watch for a flyer in the mail with details on meeting time and location.

June 25: General Meeting

“Annual Henkels Picnic”

The much anticipated Summer Picnic Meeting at the Henkels home returns on June 25! Bring a picnic dinner and dine under the stars at this annual favorite. Dessert will be provided by our hostess. Those driving TCs or equally interesting classics (tall order) get preferred parking in the driveway. Note the earlier start time of 7:00 PM. Watch for a flyer in the mail with further information, or contact Cindy Henkels.

One of TC Motoring Guild’s earliest and most active members will be celebrating his 100th birthday this June!  The club has arranged a grand celebration in honor of this momentous occasion.  On Friday, June 28 there will be a private party featuring a live big band at the Viva Rancho Cantina in Burbank.  The show and luncheon will begin at 1 PM and at 3 PM we will be eating birthday cake and then have the opportunity to say a few words to our birthday boy.  Cost is $30 per person which includes lunch.  RSVP to Larry Einhorn to payment and other details on this landmark event!

 

July 14: Central Coast British Car Show (not a TCMG event)

Spend a day surrounded by classic lines at one of the best British car shows in Southern California.  Run by the Central Coast British Car Club, the show is set in the cool ocean breeze at Channel Islands Park in Oxnard.  What better way is there to spend a Summer day? The show also includes raffle drawings and trophies are awarded for all classes of cars. Food for purchase will be available on-site as well. The show runs from 9AM – 2:30PM.

 

July 18: Commemorative Air Force Museum

A scenic drive along the Pacific Coast will take us to the town of Camarillo where we visit the Commemorative Air Force Museum.  Docents will guide us through the museum, which houses many aircraft from the WWII era as well as artifacts and displays.  See aircraft from all corners of the globe including Mustang, Spitfire and Zero!  Also others including Hellcat and Bearcat, and larger aircraft like B-25 and C-46.  Lunch will follow at a restaurant located along the runway of the airport.  A flyer in the mail will have further info.  If you plan to attend this event, please let Steve Simmons know so we can tell the docents how many people to expect.

“TC 6373 Restoration”

Our presenter for the evening is TCMG member Cliff Lemieux, who will be giving us a presentation on the restoration of his long-owned TC.

Learn the trials and pitfalls of restoration, and why Cliff says you should never take your car apart!

 

August 12-16: GoF West (Not a TCMG Event)

GoF West 2019 will be held in Prescott, Arizona. There are a few TCMG members planning to attend this all-MG event and may be interested in caravanning. See www.gofwest.org for details on registration and planned activities.

 

August 24: Driving Tour and Chicago Hot Dog Party

Don’t miss this crowd favorite! Hot Dog PartyTCMG members Kay and Larry Einhorn will be hosting one of their world-famous Chicago-themed hot dog parties at their home in Encino.  A short driving tour will precede the party.

“5-Speed Gearbox Conversion”

NOTE DATE CHANGE TO MONDAY THE 23RD!  TCMG member Malcolm Buckeridge will be detailing the process to convert a TC to a 5-speed gearbox, which he has recently completed on the Mel and Toni Appell’s car.

 

October 12-14: 63rd Annual TCMG / ARR Conclave

Our annual Halloween Party will be held at 8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 22 at our usual spot in Studio City. Entertainment will be on hand. Win fabulous prizes! Also partake in nominations for the 2020 TCMG Board.

 

November 19: General Meeting

“Out Of Africa”

TCMG member, College Professor David Mathison will be sharing some of his experiences about living and working in Africa. Note this meeting will be held on the THIRD TUESDAY rather than the usual fourth, due to Thanksgiving.

 

December 8: Annual Meeting and Holiday Party

Our much anticipated holiday party and annual meeting will be held on December 8 at Sportsman’s Lodge in Studio City! Doors open at 6PM.  In addition to great company and lots of food, you will also enjoy the following entertainment and activities:

  • Awards ceremonies for our three prestigious trophies:
    • Earl Sargent Memorial “Use it or lose it” Trophy
    • Frank Mason Award
    • Breakdown Award
  • Announcement of the 2020 TC Motoring Guild Executive Council.
  • Live Auction
  • Toy Drive to benefit Foster Children’s Resource Center.  The center provides emergency clothing and necessities to foster children referred by the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). It gives each child new school clothing, a jacket, pajamas, socks, underwear, personal care items, a backpack, school supplies, a book, and a toy. Each child is given personal attention and treated with dignity and respect, helping them to feel special.
