December 5, 2022 – January 15, 2023: DIY Driving Tour

The DIY Winter Tour is on! Your task is to photograph your TC (with or without you in it) in a Holiday or Winter setting. Photos should include something related to Winter, or the Winter Holidays (Xmas, New Year’s, etc.) Get creative, and have fun!

Submit your photos to Joyce Edgar by January 15th to be included in the slide show at our next Zoom meeting. To receive one point toward the 2023 Sargent Award, be sure to drive your TC at least five miles during your photo shoot.

January 24: General Meeting (ONLINE)

Program: “How To Build A Tank”

Our next monthly meeting will be held on January 24 on Zoom.  Our presenter for the evening will be TCMG member Rob Zucca, who designs and builds exhibits for a presidential library.  Rob will be discussing his efforts to build a WWII Sherman tank from scratch, using materials you can buy at the hardware store.  Sound incredible?  It is!  Join us to see for yourself.

The meeting starts at 6:00 PM (Pacific). Members may join 15 minutes early.

Note that anyone making a simulated journey to the meeting in a TC by driving a minimum of 10 miles on the day of the meeting will receive a point toward the Sargent Award.

February 11: Lame Duk Kup

NOTE DATE CHANGE! Rescheduled due to forecasted rain, our next event will be the Lame Duk Kup on Saturday, February 11th.

Join us for the 2023 Lame Duk Kup!  Our day will start out with a scenic tour through the twisty canyons of the Santa Monica Mountains.  Our destination is the upper reaches of Malibu Canyon where the real challenges begin, including a TC mini-funkhana that will test both driver and navigator.  Those driving boring cars (non-TCs) may also compete.

The day will conclude with a picnic and awarding of the coveted (and historic) brass duck which the winner keeps for one year.

Bring a picnic lunch!  Also bring folding chairs, as seating at the picnic location is limited. Parking at our destination is free for anyone driving a TC.  For those driving boring cars, there is a $7 fee (park fee / honor system).  Flyers are in the mail with event details, and info has also been sent to the club email list.

February 28: General Meeting

Program: “Belfast TT in a 1934 MG NE”

Our February meeting will be held on Zoom. The evening’s program will be a presentation by Pete Thelander on his trip to the Befast TT with his 1934 MG NE.

March 2-25: DIY Driving Tour

The earliest known M.G. advertisement was reportedly seen on March 2, 1923 – exactly 100 years ago this month. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the M.G. brand, our “Do It Yourself Tour” for the month of March will involve driving your TC on a journey to find or achieve something relating to 100. Take a photo with your TC showing what you found. Examples:

  • An object approximately 100 years old
  • The number 100 displayed somewhere
  • 100 of something (count carefully!)
  • A 100 mile drive (let’s see that trip meter say 100!)
  • Driving your TC 100 MPH (good luck with that)

To receive a point toward the 2023 Sargent Award, you must drive at least 10 miles during your journey to capture a photo. Submit your photo(s) to Joyce Edgar by March 25th.

March (Event moved):

The previously scheduled WIldflower Tour has been postponed until April due to a delayed bloom.

March 28: General Meeting

Our March meeting will be held on Zoom. The evening’s program will be a documentary film by TCMG member Charlie Williams on the construction of a ski lift in Northern California. Anyone interested in nuts and bolts should find the process fascinating!

The meeting starts at 6:00 PM (Pacific). Members may join 15 minutes early.

Note that anyone making a simulated journey to the meeting in a TC by driving a minimum of 10 miles on the day of the meeting will receive a point toward the Sargent Award.

Post-meeting update: Charley’s documentary is now available by clicking here.

April 1-22: DIY Driving Tour

The April DIY Tour has started!  Choose one, or both of the following themes:

April Fools: Make up a tall tale, and get a photograph (that includes your TC) to back up the story.  Like that fallen tree which was of course cut down by George Washington’s axe.

Easter Bunny: Photograph your TC with something to do with Easter, Rabbits or Eggs.

There will be no mileage requirement for this month’s challenge!  Send your photo(s) to Joyce Edgar by April 22nd to receive a Sargent award point and to have your photos included in the March 25th Zoom meeting.

Have fun!

April 15: Joe Douglass Memorial Wildflower Tour

The Wildflower Tour returns for 2023!  Recent storms have brought wildflowers back to California in abundance.  Many types of wildflowers including poppies are blooming in the mountains and deserts north of Los Angeles.  On Saturday, April 15, our adventure will take us on a 1-hour drive along scenic roads to the California Poppy Reserves in Lancaster.

After touring the sprawling fields of flowers, we will visit the nearby home of Michael and Wanda Hughes to see their TC restoration in progress.  Following the garage tour will be a picnic at the Hughes home.

September 1-21: DIY Tour

To celebrate this Labor Day weekend, you task is to find something holiday-related.  Perhaps just something that says “labor”.  Don’t worry, we aren’t making it that difficult.  We at TCMG are an equal opportunity holiday celebrators, so you are allowed to choose ANY holiday in September.  But how many can there possibly be?  You may be surprised…

https://nationaltoday.com/september-holidays/

You can pick any holiday (they seem to use that term loosely) from the above link and base your photo(s) upon it.  Send your photo(s) along with a description and what holiday you chose to Joyce Edgar by September 21 for inclusion in our next Zoom meeting.

Drive at least 5 miles during your photo shoot and receive a point toward the Sargent Award.  Competition for this year’s award is tight, with three members also going for the Iron Bottom Award.  See: http://www.tcmotoringguild.org/history/sargentaward/
