TCMG Loses Two Cherished Members

We are saddened to report the passing of two members, Karen Pohle and Joe Marcotte.

Edwin & Karen Pohle

Edwin & Karen Pohle

As reported by Allan Chalmers, Karen had Parkinsons and had been getting progressively worse for a few years. Ed and Karen had moved from Squaw Valley to Auburn recently and Karen had to go into a care facility.  As part of our Northern contingent, Ed and Karen have been regulars at our annual Conclaves for many years as well as long-time active members of the Abingdon Rough Riders.

Joe & Pat Marcotte

Also reported by Allan, Joe had gone into hospital the day after our annual meeting to do a fix on his knee replacement, and caught something that caused great breathing problems. He was on serious oxygen and finally the problem was too much for him. Also part of our Northern contingent, Joe and Pat have also regulars at our annual Conclaves for ages as well as long-time active members of the Abingdon Rough Riders.

Our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of both Karen and Joe.  They will be missed.

meetings

Our next monthly meeting will be held on March 26 at our usual Studio City location.  The evening’s program will be a sequel to a program from eight years ago, where you will learn all kinds of fascinating things about your fellow TCMG’ers.  Facts like “The hospital bill for my birth was partially paid with potatoes”.  Also “I drove a TC through the Berlin Corridor in 1996” and “My father went to high school with Charles Lindberg.”  Don’t miss this entertaining evening of TCMG member history!

February recap: 23 members and guests attended our February meeting, with two TCs parked outside driven by Simmons and Loe.  Thanks to Richard Loe for his presentation on the many British cars in his collection, and thanks also to our special guest and ex-member Barney Jackson who was on hand to donate historical items from the early days of the club.

events

The wildflower tour returns for 2019!  Recent storms have brought wildflowers back to California in abundance.  Many types of wildflowers including poppies are blooming in the mountains and deserts north of Los Angeles.  On Sunday, March 31, our adventure will take us on a 1-hour drive along scenic roads to the California Poppy Reserves in Lancaster.

Bring a picnic lunch and dine among the flowers!  We will lunch after our tour at a nearby nature park.  Picnic tables are available as first come, first served.

See the flyer (in the mail) for details on meeting time and location.  NOTE: This event will be canceled in the event of rain.

February Recap: 9 members and one TC braved the rainy weather for our Lame Duk Kup.  Congratulations to Cliff Lemieux for winning the 1930’s Grand Prix and taking home the duck.
