Stan Belland Passes

It is with a sad heart that we report the passing of Stan Belland. Stan was a significant contributor to the TC Motoring Guild. He was brought into the club by the other two Cambria Geezers, Bob McKarney and Clarence Weiss in the late 1970’s. The other two pre-deceased him, but Stan claimed that the twenty years the three of them ran around Cambria in their TC’s were some of the richest and most enjoyable years of his life.

Stan took some teasing about the time it took to get his TC operational, but he dove into the TCMG spirit with a vengeance. He was the club president for 4 years, vice-president for 7 years and handled programs for 5. He was a significant part of the Classic Chassis newsletter production for 8 years and was the recipient of our most coveted Frank Mason Award six times. He leaves his wife Esther, three children, five grandchildren and one great grand. He will be missed.

New Monthly Bonus Events Announced

In addition to our regular driving events, each month this year will have a bonus “do it yourself” tour. These tours will be in the spirit of our main events, keeping with the theme of each month’s activity. Bonus tours will be announced in the first half of each month, so be sure to keep an eye on the club calendar for updates!

Each bonus tour will also count for one point toward the Sargent Award, but will not be required activities to win an Iron Bottom Award. We hope you participate!

meetings

The Summer Picnic Meeting at the Henkels home in Pasadena returns on June 21! Bring a picnic dinner and dine under the stars at this annual favorite. Dessert will be provided by our hostess. Those driving TCs or equally interesting classics (tall order) get preferred parking in the driveway. Meeting starts at 7:00 PM. Local members will receive an invitation in the mail. As a courtesy to our hostess Cindy Henkels, please be sure to RSVP.

May recap: 27 members attended our May meeting, held online. Six TCs were driven at least 10 miles by S. Simmons, Edgar, Hunsberger, Lemieux and M. Simmons. Special thanks to John Bowyer for a fascinating presentation on the story of a very special Rippon Brothers bodied Rolls Royce he’s restoring.

Monthly Driving Events

Our driving event for June is the 50th GoF West in Buellton. This is a five day event that is not to be missed! MGs of all types gather at GoF West each year to celebrate the marque. Events include car show, funkhana, navigational rallye, arts and crafts competition, auction, banquet, and more. The event is scheduled to be held June 27 through July 1 in Buellton, California. There will be a club caravan to and from this event.

All attendees must register.  For event and registration information see the GoF West web site.

May Recap: 14 members and guests with 5 TCs and a few other classics and moderns participated in our May tour of Heritage Valley. TCs were driven by Steve & Linda Simmons, Kregg Hunsberger & guest, Rob Zucca, Cliff Lemieux and Mike & Sherri Simmons.

Monthly Bonus Events

As our main event this month is GoF West, to be held in California’s wine country, our Bonus Tour for June is themed to match. Being the 50th GoF West, and held among the country’s finest vineyards, your challenge is to photograph your TC with something related to “wine” or “50”. As always, creativity is encouraged. For example, misspellings happen.

To qualify for Sargent Award Points, you must drive your TC at least five miles during your photo journey. Send your photos to Joyce Edgar by June 25th for inclusion in our next online meeting.

Have fun!
