TCMG Loses Three of its Cherished Members

We have recently learned of the passing of Jan McLish.  Jan and Don have been active TCMG members for over 40 years, and regulars at both meetings and driving events over that time.  Jan has been in our thoughts lately due to some health issues, and on May 4th she was rushed to the hospital where she eventually passed.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Don and family during this difficult time.  Funeral services will be held on May 13 at Glen Haven Memorial Park, 13017 North Lopez Canyon Road, Sylmar at 1:00pm.  A reception will follow at Angeles Golf Course Club House at .

With deepest regret, we have been informed of the passing of long-time TCMG member Betty Gaw. Betty, with Marilyn Maxwell at her side (on left of photo), have been members of our group for several decades, making appearances at numerous conclaves and GoF West events. Her beautifully restored TC is still making showings at club events, having first passed through the hands of Lloyd & Carolyn Hendrickson and now cared for by Garret & Ambre Hanes. There is no service planned but there will be a gathering of friends at her home in Atascadero on April 23. If you need further information, contact a club officer.

It is also our sad duty to report the passing of TCMG member Charlotte Wilmer. Charlotte and Bob have been members for a very long time and were active for many years with the club. Charlotte is also known for playing the part of the trophy girl in our 1972 production of “The Great Race”, which can be viewed on our Video Vault page. A group email was recently sent with information on where to send cards. If you need this information, contact a club officer.

NOTE REMOTE LOCATION!  Our next monthly meeting on May 24 will be held at the shop of TCMG members Hema and Janakie Ratnayake.  Their shop and collection will be open for us to view and includes numerous British cars of all types.  In his collection are three TCs previously owned by TCMG members, one of them by founding member Earl Sargent.  Doors open at 7:30 PM.

Many thanks to our Simon Boadle for a fascinating talk about his travels around the world in an MGB GT at our April meeting!

events

cherries On Sunday May 29, take part in a fun day of driving along country roads and picking your own cherries right from the trees in the orchards of scenic Leona Valley. You will find new ways to enjoy fresh cherries once you get home, assuming you haven’t eaten your entire haul already!

cherry-pickingOur driving tour will take us on a scenic 40-mile route along back roads through the Santa Clarita Valley and over the Sierra Pelona Mountains to Leona Valley.

This is a great event for young and old alike. Lunch will follow the event at a nearby restaurant. Details including caravan info and a firm event date will be announced when finalized.

Date is dependent on cherry blooms, which are dependent on weather conditions!  So stay tuned for any changes.

April Event Recap: Last month’s 3-day event to Santa Barbara and Wine Country was enjoyed by 18 members with four TCs present, driven by Simmons, Loe, Einhorn and Wright.  See the June newsletter for full details and photos!
