Conclave Dates Announced
The 61st Annual Conclave of the TC Motoring Guild and Abingdon Rough Riders will be held Saturday through Monday, October 7-9, 2017 in Morro Bay. Our host hotel is the recently renovated Inn at Morro Bay. Click here for the latest information.

Join us on July 25 at our meeting room in Studio City for a special presentation by TCMG member Malcolm Buckeridge, who will be giving a talk detailing maintenance procedures and techniques for the MG TC. Malcolm is a BMC-trained mechanic with many decades of experience working on British cars of all types. Questions will be taken from the audience as part of a group discussion on various topics.
June Recap: A large crowd of members and guests attended our annual Summer picnic at the Henkels home. Four TCs were present, driven by Loe, Edgar, Ramos and Simmons. Two MG SA Saloons were also there, driven by Spiegel and Olson.by Loe and Simmons. Our thanks to Cindy Henkels for hosting another memorable picnic meeting!

Our next driving event is GoF West 2017 in Santa Maria, California, taking part from July 10-14. Several TC Motoring Guild members have signed up to help run this year’s event! For information on volunteering, contact David Edgar.

June Recap: 15 members and guests took part in our Somis Safari in June. Six TCs started out, driven by Simmons, Loe, Hanes, Crandall, Spindler and Einhorn. The Einhorn TC didn’t make it far due to growing pains with a new engine, and was retired for the day in favor of a classic Mustang convertible.

The much anticipated Summer Picnic Meeting at the Henkels home returns on June 27! Bring a picnic dinner and dine under the stars at this annual favorite. Dessert will be provided by our hostess. Those driving TCs or equally interesting classics (tall order) get preferred parking in the driveway. Note the earlier start time of 7:00 PM. Where the heck is Somis?!? Find out on June 25 by joining us on a Somis Safari! Visit the Nut House! Journey back to the early 1900’s! Have a Berry Good Time!
Our last stop on the tour is at a roadside fruit stand where you can not only buy all kinds of farm fresh fruits and berries, but you can pick your own by grabbing a basket and walking the berry trail! This is a great event for young and old alike so bring the kids! And don’t forget to bring your TC to fully enjoy the old back roads we will take to get there.

PREVIEW MIKE SHERRELL’S NEW BOOK: Steve Simmons will be bringing an advance copy of the long-anticipated sequel to “TC’s Forever!” (the bible of TC ownership) entitled “TC’s Forever More!”. This book, set for official release in May, is an essential piece of literature for the true TC enthusiast. This is your chance to view the book early and see why you need to order one!
Four Banks, One Club, 59 Years. This will be the topic of our next monthly meeting on March 28. After 59 years, this will be our last meeting in this room. Come celebrate the end of our nearly 6-decade run meeting at this location! Hear stories about the time we’ve spent here, see photos of the olden days, and learn about our new meeting location that will host the April meeting. Don’t miss this very special and historic night!
After a few dry years, the flowers are once again blooming with gusto in the California Deserts! This of course means that our traditional Joe Douglass Wildflower Tour returns for 2017! On April 1st, Enjoy a scenic drive to the Antelope Valley for a drive through the famous California Poppy Reserve. Blooms of all types, not just poppies, make this an annual favorite. See the April newsletter for meeting time and location, or watch for a flyer in the mail.
On Sunday, March 12, enjoy a tour of Leonis Adobe, a 165-year-old historic ranch estate located in Calabasas. A scenic drive will precede the tour, ending at Leonis Adobe. The tour cost is $6 per person. Lunch will follow the tour at a nearby restaurant.

At our next monthly meeting on January 24, the crowd favorite returns with your award-winning (through cheating) host, Gene Olson! Teams will compete for fabulous prizes (or not) by spinning the wheel and answering trivia questions relating to the MG TC and TC Motoring Guild. Look for the TC in the parking lot with one wheel missing and you’ll know you’re in the right place!
December 11 is our much anticipated holiday party and annual meeting! This year’s event will be held at Sportsman’s Lodge in Studio City, at 6:00 PM. In addition to great company and lots of food, you will also enjoy the following entertainment and activities:
Our next monthly meeting will be held on November 22. TCMG member Garret Hanes has recently moved his restoration shop to a new location where they work on Cobras (real ones!) and other exotic classics. See how the shop was built, the type of work they do and other interesting factoids at this very special presentation!
On Saturday, November 12, take a trip down memory lane with a visit to Valley Relics Museum in Chatsworth! The museum chronicles the history of the San Fernando Valley from the 1800’s through present day, focusing primarily on the urbanization and pop culture of the 1950’s through 80’s. The collection includes photographs, neon signs, cars, bicycles, old documents and more.
Don’t miss our premiere event of the year, the Annual Conclave with the Abingdon Rough Riders! This year’s event is a special a 3-night celebration (October 6-9), marking the 60th consecutive year we will meet with our friends from the north. Special activities are being planned by ARR, the hosts of this year’s event. The location will be The Apple Farm in San Luis Obispo, next door to the site of our first conclave in 1957.
On September 27, TCMG member John Visconsi will be giving a fascinating presentation on his automotive sculptures. John spends countless hours fabricating each piece by hand using 3/8″ tubing to create unique and beautiful artistic creations to represent various auto makes and models. See the techniques and skills involved to create an automotive art piece like no other at this most interesting presentation.
NOTE REMOTE LOCATION! Our next monthly meeting on August 23 will be held at the Simon Auto Museum in Gardena. Meeting begins at 7:00 PM. Sit among the amazing cars and automobilia of TCMG members Ron and Dave Simon’s auto museum while enjoying our annual movie night! Popcorn and refreshments will be provided. Watch for a flyer in the mail with details on our feature presentation.
On Saturday, August 13 we will gather at historic Will Rogers State Park for a guided tour of the Will Rogers home, barn and grounds. Tours are on a first come, first served basis so plan to arrive early to ensure you get a ticket! We plan to meet in front of the house at 9:30 AM, and the first tour starts at 10:00 AM. The tour is free, and parking is $11 for seniors, $12 for the Simmons. Watch for a flyer in the mail with full details.
Our next monthly meeting will be held on July 26th. The program is “MGs Through The Ages”, presented by our own MG expert Pete Thelander. We will learn the details of the various models produced by The M.G. Car Company from its conception onward. You would be hard pressed to find a more knowledgeable person on this subject, so join us for this opportunity to learn something new about the cars we love!
On Sunday, July 10, TCMG members Kay and Larry Einhorn will be hosting one of their world-famous Chicago-themed hot dog parties at their home in Encino. The day will start with breakfast snacks at the Crandall home in Malibu, followed by a 90-minute scenic driving tour to reach the site of the hot dogs.
